Jupp seals second in Cadet
26 October 2010
Barely a week after finishing second in the MSA British Cadet Championship Connor Jupp sealed the runner-up spot in the Super One Cadet Comer standings at the final round of the championship at PFI.
With series champion Tom Harvey focusing on the supporting Super Cadet demonstration race the fight for second in the standings was the main point of interest with any one of half a dozen drivers capable of taking the place.
Max Vaughan came into the weekend with a tenuous grip on second place with Ross Gunn, Lando Norris, Jupp, Jordan Gilbertson and newly crowned British Champion Nathan Aston all in with a shout.
O Plate winner Norris began the weekend in the best way possible by winning the first point scoring final thanks to a last lap pass on Jupp and Gunn with Aston fourth, Gilbertson seventh and Vaughan failing to finish.
The final race of the year was an action packed affair with the advantage swinging between Jupp and American driver Santino Ferrucci with a large chasing pack continuously swapping places behind them. With less than two laps to go Jupp made the crucial pass on Ferrucci to take the lead and the victory.
Despite Norris finishing a strong third, six hundredths behind Ferrucci and just inches ahead of Philip Rawson, Gilbertson, Gunn and a fired up Vaughan, Jupp's win was enough to give him second place overall by 16 points after dropped scores were taken into account.
Norris eventually claimed third overall just two points ahead of Vaughan with Gunn fifth and Aston sixth. Ferrucci's strong finish to the season elevated him to seventh overall ahead of Gilbertson, Rawson and Callum Ilott.
