Davison enjoys 'solid' run in Queensland

Jim Beam Racing's Will Davison put in yet another consistent performance at Queensland Raceway over the weekend, round seven of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

The ever consistent Davison finished inside the top six in all three races, giving him fifth spot overall for the round, in a performance that has come to be expected of the young gun since his breakthrough win at Eastern Creek earlier this season.

Davison continued to impress and took home another big haul of points as he solidified his position in the top ten of the Championship with top five performances now the norm.

Coming into the round in eighth position in the V8 Supercar Championship points table, Davison closed the points' gap on Craig Lowndes and he still occupies eighth place as he looks ahead to another solid round at Winton in two weeks time.

"Obviously a podium would have been nice at our home track, but I have again scored a good amount of points and we continue to learn more about the new control tyre," said Davison.

"We set out to make sure we qualified well and to finish top five for the weekend is a very solid performance and a credit to the team as we still have some issues with improving tyre life."

Steve Johnson meanwhile again suffered a luckless weekend in the sister car after qualifying inside the top ten.

Johnson was turned around by Paul Morris in the opening race of the weekend, costing him five positions and leaving him to play catch up for the remainder of the weekend.

He fought on to finish 15th in the final race, a solid performance having struggled with brake issues and rear grip.

"It's disappointing to qualify top ten and then not go on with it, but some things are out of your control, it's a case of what might have been with a bit more luck on my side," said Johnson, who was classified 16th overall.

"The car was the best it's been all weekend in that final race, but then we had an issue with the brakes; there were some corners where the car really struggled so I was just happy to be able hold on in the end."
