With the team currently sitting fifth in the team championship standings and James Courtney in eighth and Shane van Gisbergen in 15th in the driver's championship, the SP Tools Racing and JELD-WEN Motorsport crews are aiming for strong results to move up the rankings in the last three rounds of 2008.
“I have really good memories from last year's round in Bahrain where we brought the JELD-WEN Falcon home in second position,” said Courtney.
“The Bahrain circuit is pretty challenging; it's very hard on tyres so you have to manage that as best you can over the whole weekend. If you can get on top of your tyres it puts you in good shape.
”Last weeks result at Indy dropped us down a spot in the championship to eighth so it's head down-bottom up now to claw back up the ladder as far as we can in the final rounds of the year.”
“I really liked the circuit in Bahrain last year, my first year there,” added van Gisbergen. “It seemed to suit both the SBR-prepared car and my driving style. We struggled in qualifying which hurt us for the rest of the weekend but the track was definitely a lot of fun.
“It's quite tight and twisty in the first section and then it opens up to some very wide and fast areas. You need a car that is good in both the slow and high speed corners so it's a real challenge to get the set up right.”
