Toll HRT to remain as factory Holden squad

The Toll Holden Racing Team, the official factory V8 Supercar team of Holden, will race into its 20th year and beyond after the signing of a new agreement.

Holden Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alan Batey made the announcement to the press at Sandown International Raceway in Melbourne after reiterating the company's commitment to HRT's team members in a private meeting.

The multi-year deal will see the Walkinshaw Racing-engineered cars remain the standard bearer for V8 Supercar's most successful manufacturer.

“HRT is part of Holden's DNA,” Batey said. “This has been the most successful relationship in the history of Australian touring cars.

“We have two of the finest drivers in the Championship in Garth Tander and Will Davison and we are very excited about HRT's future success.”

HRT evolved from Tom Walkinshaw's HSV Racing in 1990 and has enjoyed considerable success. It is the most winning team in Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercar Championship history, having scored 61 round and 155 Championship race victories in addition to five Bathurst and six V8 Supercar Championship titles. It has also recorded 74 pole positions.

Toll Holden Racing Team, Tom Walkinshaw, said he was pleased with the decision by Holden to extend one of motorsport's longest associations.

“Next year marks the 20th anniversary of the Toll Holden Racing Team and we look forward to many more years as the official Holden factory backed team of the V8 Supercar Championship,” he said.

CEO of Walkinshaw Racing, Craig Wilson said the Toll Holden Racing Team was focused on delivering results for its legion of fans and sponsors.

“With Will Davison and Garth Tander currently sitting second and third in the Championship and still eight rounds to go, the whole team is committed to winning races, Bathurst and ultimately the series,” he said. “The renewal of the HRT racing contract by Holden is a tremendous vote of confidence in our Team and racing operations.”
