Courtney quickest in Queensland practice

A perceived home test track advantage at Queensland Raceway was converted by James Courtney into the quickest time during Friday's practice for this weekend's Queensland House and Land 300.

The Jim Beam Falcon was fastest in the middle part of three sessions and Courtney's time held up due to an oil spillage that prevented quicker laps in the final 50-minute session.

That oil belonged to reigning V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup who suffered a loss of oil pressure and was unable to post a representative time.

According to Mark Dutton, Whincup's TeamVodafone race engineer, the team had completed race simulation laps in the earlier stages but were unable to accumulate vital qualifying information when the problem intervened.

Luckily their home test track data, as well as that provided by team mate Craig Lowndes, shouldn't have too big an impact when qualifying commences tomorrow.

Another to suffer an engine drama requiring an overnight transplant was Paul Dumbrell who failed to register any laps at all in the final stint having run just a total of nine for the duration.

Otherwise it was a relatively incident free day with most attention centred upon the endurance co-driver session which began the day.

Multiple World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss cut his first competitive laps in a race environment during a 35-minute period headed by Warren Luff who was driving Courtney's Falcon.

“The day was another learning experience,” Bayliss said. “I was out there with a lot of the guys from the main game and received a few touch ups to officially welcome me to the series.
