Extra date sees V8 series grow in 2010

The V8 Supercar Championship Series will extend its season to 16 events next season, executive chairman Tony Cochrane has revealed.

The 2010 calendar will feature the highest tally of race weekends in the history of the series, with the full schedule set to be announced at the forthcoming L&H 500 at Phillip Island this weekend. Cochrane confirmed that an additional event would be revealed for 2010 at the same time.

“Once again, V8 Supercars is defying global economic trends by getting bigger, not smaller,” Cochrane said,
“This is a time of incredible growth and boom conditions for V8 Supercars. We continue to add new events, secure new sponsors and have current partners either adding to or extending their current arrangements.

“With new international television opportunities to be announced in October, a record year pending with live crowds and strong increases in all our sectors we have never seen growth in our sport and business like this.

“We are proud to say that while some motorsport categories around the world are reducing the number of events - and, in some cases, entries - that we are still expanding.”

The 2010 calendar is in its final draft stages prior to release this weekend.
