V8 Supercars appoint new Racing Director

V8 Supercars Australia has appointed long-time technical expert Adam Perry to the newly established role of Racing Director to take charge of all technical and sporting components of the sport moving forward.

Perry assumes the role immediately prior to the Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast. From 2010 the role will consume the position of Category Technical Director, currently held on a part-time basis by Frank Adamson, which has become redundant.

Adamson will remain as a Technical Manager while Operations Manager Kurt Sakzewski continues in that role reporting to Perry.

V8 Supercars Australia Executive Chairman Tony Cochrane announced Perry's appointment at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 today, stating that Perry was an ideal choice for the demanding position.

Cochrane has long stated that the technical aspect of the sport was in need of rejuvenation which led to a three-month major review across the entire technical and racing aspects of V8SA.

“It is clearly a vital element of the business and our growth moving forward,” Cochrane said. “The role is very wide ranging, involves an enormous amount of consultation and requires a person that can be both firm but all-encompassing in what is a very unique environment.

“It's vital that Adam is given the backing to fill this challenging role that he requires and he has both my total support and the Board's.”

Perry returns to the sport after a two-year hiatus from his long-term position at Larkham Motorsport.

“It will certainly be a challenging role but one I am really looking forward to,” Perry said. “I am under no illusion as to the size of the task, the uniqueness and the dynamics of the business, as well as the key players within it.

“I believe clear and frequent communication is the key to building a competence based relationship with the team owners and managers.

“Having been away from the sport for a short time I can return with a clean sheet. V8 Supercars has been an enormously successful business for a long time and is also intensely competitive on and off track.
