Bright prepares for Sandown sprint.

Jason Bright insists that nothing will change in terms of his approach to the Sandown round of the V8 Supercar Championship despite the fact that the fifth round of the season this weekend will now be a sprint event.

After a number of years as a 500km endurance race, the 2008 Sandown event will be made up on three races over the course of the weekend but Bright said that the length of the races would mean there was no change to his approach to the Midas 400.

“The individual race distances at Sandown this year are around the length of a driver stint in the 500km format,” he said. “So we don't need to do anything that different.

“The only thing really different is that you have to attack throughout each race, as there's no real time to relax. This time of year the weather could play its part. A cold and wintery day could make it feel like a 500-kilometre race!

“We have a new car that's working very well. Despite having just one race under its belt, we are confident that we can look at a result well inside the top-ten."

The Fujitsu Racing team goes into the Midas 400 buoyed by a promising test at Winton last week, which was used to further develop the all-new Ford Falcon that debuted at the previous round in Perth.

“The test was excellent,” chief engineer Geoff Slater admitted. “We tried a few ideas and that's provided us with valuable information as we head forward with the car.

“Perth was a good outing, but that track is really not like any other track – so the Winton test was extremely valuable. Last year Sandown seemed to be a good circuit for our car. We were quickest in a rain affected practice session. Following our test we are confident that we can be competitive throughout the entire weekend.”
