Ingall delighted with Ipswich runners-up spot.

Russell Ingall stepped onto the podium on Sunday for the first time since returning to Holden with Paul Morris' Supercheap Auto Racing team.

Ingall finished second overall in the City of Ipswich 400 at Queensland Raceway, capitalising on Saturday's strong qualifying and race 1 efforts to finish Sunday's two races second and third respectively.

Strong pace and a great pit stop saw Ingall jump to second in Race 2, then the veteran pushed series leader Mark Winterbottom hard for 20 laps in the final 38-lap contest until his rear tyres lost grip.

He then made a mistake and lost a spot to former team-mate James Courtney, but retained enough points to claim second overall for the round.

It was Ingall's first podium since the Gold Coast last October, and the result has catapulted him into the championship's top ten, jumping three positions from 12th going into the round to ninth at the halfway mark of the season.

"A great weekend, almost perfect. It was a team effort all round; we had good starts, the right strategies, great stops and the Supercheap Auto Commodore was faultless," said Ingall. "If it wasn't for running out of tyres at the end of the race it would have been the perfect weekend. I tried to get Frosty in Race 3 and pushed him hard, but used up the tyres in doing so.

"Then I made a mistake and lost second in that race to Courtney, but we had enough points to keep second overall for the round. This result is terrific for all the faith Supercheap Auto, Castrol, Holden, Sirromet and the entire Morris family have shown in me - and for them I'm thrilled."

Ingall's team-mate Paul Morris meanwhile had a far tougher time and he was penalised 15 grid positions by race officials for an incident involving Steven Johnson in Saturday's race - despite Johnson clearing him of any wrongdoing.

Morris charged from 27th to finish race 2 in 15th, and looked set to figure more prominently in race 3 but an engine issue saw him park his Commodore on lap 11. He finished 25th overall for the round.
