Mark Winterbottom admits that he is enjoying the pressure of leading the V8 Supercar Championship standings heading into this weekend's event at Winton Raceway.

The Ford Performance Racing man has already won on seven occasions this season, two more than second placed Garth Tander, and leads the title race by 122 points going into the weekend.

However, Frosty admits that despite being the man the others are looking to reel in, his approach for the remainder of the season won't change.

"It's important to be a race winner and my approach isn't going to change in the second half of the season," he said. "You've got to finish races consistently though and not take risks. I haven't been taking risks all year and I'm not going to start now.

"I think I drive better under pressure and leading is enjoyable for me. To be fighting for a championship is good pressure! Its way better than any other pressure you could get because it means you're in contention."

Winterbottom added that while it was beyond expectations to be leading the standings at the half-way point, it was little surprise to see Tander and Jamie Whincup as his closest challengers.

"They're definitely the main contenders," he said. "You always expect Garth to be up there but Whincup is hit and miss; if he gets it right he gets a bag of points but he often gets it wrong."
