IRWIN confident ahead of L&H 500

1 January 1901

IRWIN Racing will hope to impress in the first of the V8 Supercar Championship enduro events this coming weekend at Phillip Island.

The team heads into the L&H 500 with Marcus Marshall being joined at the wheel of the Ford Falcon by endurance racing specialist Matt Halliday as Phillip Island plays host to an endurance race for the first time since the 1960s.

“The circuit has always excited me and now with this format I can't wait,” Marshall said. “I have always enjoyed the longer format of racing and an afternoon of on the limit driving will be awesome.

“You do have to show a lot of patience in the longer races. However, you can't let your competitors get away and you have to be ready to pounce when the situation arises. We tested last week and both Matt and I spent as much time together as possible. It is very important that we are both as familiar with each other as possible. Having another driver's input on the technical side has been really handy as well.”

Halliday admitted he was pleased with the way his first run in the car had gone ahead of the race itself and said he was excited about what the race may hold for the Britek Motorsport-run team.

“It was good to get into the IRWIN Falcon for the first time and get to work with the team,” he said. “The test was great and I was quickly on the pace by feeling comfortable with both the car and the team from the first lap.

“I am extremely excited about the forthcoming Phillip Island race to see what Marcus and I can achieve.”
