Defending BTCC champion - and 2008 title winner elect - Fabrizio Giovanardi says he is ready to 'do the job for the team' as the Italian gets set to debut for Team Vodafone at Phillip Island.

The Italian will partner fellow European Marc Hynes for the L&H 500 as he makes his first appearance in the V8 Supercar Championship, ironically going up against normal team-mate Matt Neal who will be at the wheel of a Supercheap Auto Holden Commodore.

Having tested the Vodafone Falcon earlier in the year, Giovanardi returned to the track last week for a day of official testing and was able to try out the car in both the wet and the dry thanks to changeable weather conditions.

"It was good to get back in the car - we were able to try two different situations with it raining during the morning," he said. "I think I understood the car a lot better and by the end of the day I was doing some good lap times.

"The car was very different to drive in the wet, with the tyre not a full wet it is most difficult to reach the limits.

"We practiced our driver changes a lot and I think we are both ready to do the job for the team."

Former British F3 racer was also pleased with how the test had gone as he shared equal track time with Giovanardi during the day of running, with the Briton confident for the weekend ahead.

"It felt great to be back in the car again, we had a chance to run in the wet which could be very useful at Phillip Island," he said. "We both did plenty of miles in the car, and lots of driver changes as well; we are both quite tall so it has been quite tricky to get our times right for this.

"I'm looking forward to racing for real now, we've run the car in both qualifying and race setup and had a chance to play with the bars to improve the handling to our liking.

"I learnt a lot of important lessons from the session and it was good to spend more time with the team ahead of this weekend's event."
