Marcus Marshall will look to build on his solid performance at Bathurst as the V8 Supercar Championship heads to the Gold Coast this weekend for the Coffee Club V8 Supercar Challenge.

The IRWIN Racing man took home a 14th place finish at Bathurst alongside Matt Halliday, a result that has boosted his confidence ahead of the Surfers Paradise event.

With the Gold Coast circuit being his home race on the calendar, Marshall has extra reason to impress and he said he was confident about the weekend ahead.

"I'm looking forward to this event," he said. "I actually live on the Gold Coast and it's always great to race in front of family and friends.

"A lot of people will enjoy the party atmosphere, but in the car it is one of the toughest races we do. It's usually hot outside, plus add around 20 degrees inside to that. I work very hard on my fitness and certainly over a full race distance that's a key advantage I do have."

IRWIN Racing engineer Marcus Clarke added that he was fully aware of the challenge that the Gold Coast Indy brings.

"Any mistake is punished against the concrete walls that line the track, but we will keep it clean and make our way forward," he said. "We have had an excellent preparation following our strong performance at Bathurst. The final result, plus bringing a straight car home has allowed the boys plenty of time to have the car ready for the trip north.

"Brakes will be a key area for a strong run at Indy. We feel our brake package is one of our strengths and that along with Marcus's fitness will be a telling factor in all three races."
