Whincup completes triple.

After another win at Bathurst, Team Vodafone ace Jamie Whincup completed a clean-sweep at Surfers Paradise with victory in the third race of the Coffee Club V8 Supercar Challenge on the Gold Coast.

Doing his championship hopes no harm at all, Whincup scooped the maximum 300 points on offer for the round by winning all three races.

As was the case in the other two 27-lap races, Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander finished second and Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom came in third.

“To get pole and win all three races is very special but for me this event was really the only big major which I haven't done any good at,” Whincup reflected. “Today is a special day for me and I can tick another box but it's a bit more than that.

Tander, who had the jump on Whincup off the start line but lost it by the first turn, said his team fought all the way to the end.

“One of the hallmarks you can see this year is taking opportunities when they arise and we didn't quite do that this weekend,” he said. “But we had a really fast car in all three races and it's encouraging going into Bahrain (in two weeks). We lost some points to Jamie but we closed in on Frosty Championship-wise so it wasn't a bad weekend.”

Garry Rogers Motorsport's Lee Holdsworth made a great start to his race by overtaking Winterbottom early in the first lap and held his own for a number of laps.

When the race leaders made their compulsory pit stops during a safety car for Cameron McConville's parked Commodore, Holdsworth moved into second place ahead of Tander exiting the pitlane.

Stone Brothers Racing's Shane Van Gisbergen and Jack Daniel's Racing driver Jack Perkins clashed at turn four on lap 12, and Van Gisbergen was also forced to park his car which was crippled with bent steering.
