Triple Eight Race Engineering has been able to celebrate a stunning 2008 campaign after wrapping up the V8 Supercar Championship crown to add to its success in the British Touring Car Championship.
The final round of the V8 Supercar season at Oran Park saw Jamie Whincup successfully secure the drivers' title, while the Triple Eight-run Team Vodafone outfit also secured the teams' title thanks to the performances of Whincup and team-mate Craig Lowndes over the course of the year.
As well as that, Triple Eight Australia also clinched the famed Bathurst title for a third straight year and was awarded the prize of best presented team at the annual end of season awards function.
That followed on from the success of Triple Eight's UK arm in the BTCC, where Fabrizio Giovanardi – who drove for the V8 team at Phillip Island and Bathurst – successfully defended his drivers' title.
Giovanardi also helped Vauxhall to take the manufacturers' title, while the VX Racing team took team honours – giving Triple Eight a clean sweep of the titles available to them in the BTCC during 2008.
“We strive to be the best in everything we do, and 2008 has clearly been a brilliant year, both in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series and the British Touring Car Championship,” Triple Eight Australia team principal Roland Dane said. “Securing the V8 Supercar Drivers and Teams championships last weekend was a long-held goal and to do it in such a dominant fashion is a credit to all involved, both in the garage and behind-the-scenes. Both Ian Harrison – as my opposite number in the UK – and I dearly wanted to win here and in the UK in the same year and I know that I speak for Derek Warwick as well when I say how immensely proud we all are of the achievements of the two crews at both ends of the World.
"We've now got to get our heads down here in Brisbane to try to catch up with the six sets of titles that Ian and the boys over there have won! It's important that we now take some time out to reflect on the season past before beginning preparation for next year where we will aim for success on an even greater level.”
