Casey Stoner to sit out 2014 V8 season?

4 July 2013

Double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner may take a sabbatical from motorsport competition in 2014.

The Australian, who retired from grand prix at the end of last season and switched to the V8 Supercar Dunlop Series, is still searching for the right balance between racing and family life.

“This year I was planning to just take a complete year off, [but] we discussed things and thought that the DVS [Dunlop V8 Series] was the perfect thing,” Stoner told the Speedcafe website.

“…but it's been a lot busier than what I wanted it to be. I really just need a year off. I've been doing this since I was four years old. I've been travelling around non-stop and really do just need that time off to get everything done that we've always wanted to do.”

Asked specifically if that meant a sabbatical for 2014, Stoner replied that nothing is decided, but admitted: “I'd definitely like to slow down and get to grips with life a little bit.”

Stoner is currently 23rd in the DVS standing, with a best race finish of 14th, heading into this weekend's Townsville street event, which Stoner previews in the video below...
