Jeremy Guarnoni got his quest to score a maiden FIM Supestock 1000 Championship victory off to strong start as he led a Kawasaki 1-2 in first free practice at the Nurburgring.

The Frenchman, who has finished on the podium in each of the last three races, came out top of an ever-changing session to go a tenth quicker than Kawasaki counterpart and former Pedercini team-mate Bryan Staring.

With Sylvain Barrier in third place, all three title chasers were classified ahead of championship leader Eddi La Marra, the Italian completing the session in fifth place, just behind his Barni Ducati team-mate Lorenzo Savadori.

Markus Reiterberger was sixth fastest on the Alpha BMW, ahead of Fabio Massei on the Ten Kate-backed Honda, Ondrej Jeze, Christoffer Bergman and British rider Kev Coghlan.
