FIM Superstock 1000 title chaser Sylvain Barrier gave himself a boost ahead of qualifying for the eighth round at the Nurburgring as he paced second free practice with the fastest time of the weekend thus far.

The BMW Italia rider holds a provisional second place on the grid behind countryman Jeremy Guarnoni currently, but a time of 1min 59.605secs in FP2 was enough to put him just ahead of his rival this time.

Behind the two Frenchmen, Bryan Staring was the only other rider to break 2mins, while series leader Eddi La Marra – who currently holds a 31 point advantage over the competition – was fourth best on the Barni Ducati.

Fabio Massei claimed fifth best aboard the Ten Kate-backed Honda, ahead of La Marra's team-mate Lorenzo Savadori, Ducati duo Ondrej Jezek and Kev Coghlan, while Matthieu Lussiana and Markus Reiterberger rounded out the top ten.
