Lowes gets acquainted with Yakhnich Yamaha
Sam Lowes says he cannot wait to start the 2013 World Supersport Championship after impressing during pre-season testing at Jerez with new employers Yakhnich Motorsport.

The British rider, who enters into his third season of WSS competition in 2013 having spent two seasons riding for PTR Honda, has made a switch to Russian outfit Yakhnich Yamaha as he looks to mount a convincing title challenge.

Though this will only be Yakhnich's second year at WSS level, Lowes proves competitive during testing at Jerez, going second fastest despite suffering a fall towards the end of the day.

Pleased with his transition to the Yamaha YZF-R6, Lowes – who was only a tenth slower than pace setter Kenan Sofuoglu - is now looking ahead to the start of the season in less than a month's time.

“I'm really happy about the results,” he said. “The bike is really fast and it was easy for me to get into a fast rhythm without pushing too much... I really want to go as soon as possible to Australia so I can start the season with this good feeling!”

the r6 has always been a great race bike, not surpriseed its near the front BUT sam lowes has always shown he has the speed in testing and practice, but wilts when it comes to the actual races. Will see if hes made any progress on his race craft ...

lowes is fast, but the SS tires are slow, hopefully he finds the 'best' pace to work with. I think if SS had the Dunlop slicks of Moto2 they might get more race pace instead of the lets creep along for most of the race and only push for 5 or 6 laps during the whole of a race. Would be nice to see some stronger tires in SS, cause it was weak sauce last year. I think it was either Russia or the round after where they were consistently slowing down (the one where Cluzel came back) to keep their tires from going kaput. I understand the tires they have to race on, but those bikes and riders are much faster than what they have to wear around the rims of their bikes.
