Sam Lowes continued his perfect run of form ahead of final qualifying for the opening round of the 2013 World Supersport Championship at Phillip Island by pacing second free practice.
The Briton is already well placed to claim pole position for the curtain raiser after his record-shattering effort in Q1, but while he wasn't able to get close to that lap in FP2, he was still one of only two riders to lap below 1min 34secs.
Joining him in the 1min 33secs bracket was Kenan Sofuoglu, the Turk producing his best lap of the weekend to get to within two tenths of Lowes and in turn command a clear eight tenth margin back to his nearest rival in third place.
Michael van der Mark was 'best of the rest' aboard the Pata Honda, just ahead of Vladimir Leonov, the Russian bouncing back after failing to make it out in Q1 due to damage sustained in an FP1 accident.
Continuing his impressive transition to Superport machinery, Kev Coghlan was an excellent fifth fastest on the DMC Lorenzini Kawasaki, while sixth Roberto Rolfo kept the MV Agusta
F3 towards the front of the field in sixth place.
Lorini Honda's Alex Baldolini was seventh fastest, ahead of Christian Iddon on the second of the ParkinGO-prepared MV Agustas, Jack Kennedy and wild-card rider Josh Hook.
Fallers in the session included Iddon and Fabien Foret, the latter becoming the latest high-profile rider to suffer a crash that would rule him out of the entire session.
Elsewhere, the field was missing three of its riders, including Hungarian duo Gabor Talmacsi and Balazs Nemeth, who have since withdrawn from the opening event after sustaining injuries in crashes on the opening day of action.
Luca Scassa was also absent after hurting his wrist in one of 12 accidents that occurred during the infamous crash-strewn FP1 session, though it remains unclear as to whether he will still attempt to race. His Intermoto Kawasaki team-mate David Salom, meanwhile, did make it on track for FP2 having missed Q1.
