dafydd, the wrc cars are very fast because of the almost unlimited developement allowed. and look at atkinsons car after the crash. it was just a roll cage with carbon fibe skin. for rallying to succeed long term, the cars have to be rrecognisably production type.go back to the good old days, and you will see how little work was allowed on coopers and tincans, yet they still managed to provide a spectacle. the current wrc cars are just the same as the old gpB cars that were banned as being too dangerous. engine outputs are not being policed, and a halt had to be called so as to return rallying to the non-professionals. less spectacle, yes, but more people will be able to compete

Can someone please explain to me what will happen to the Impreza 4 wheel drive car as this isnt an S2000 car?? Am I right in saying that an S2000 car can be upgraded to WRC with these add ons?? Subaru cant start with a 2 wheel drive car, make it into a S2000 then upgrade it to WRC like ford or citroen can or are 4 wheel drive cars accepted as a base for S2000??

As far as I understand the new regs - but dont shoot me if I am wrong - it has been known! - scoobies are entered as s2000 and can be upgraded to wrc. It is, from what I understand, an effort to help the privateer with a cost effort to get into a format and stick with it for a season before upgrading if he/she wants. Whatever happened to the "clubman" cars we used to have when I was racing! Upto 1300 CC - they were fabulous fun, cheap and cheerful. I raced a little Toyota Starlet for 5 years same effing engine! and won class every year! peed on all other in the class (Lada was a big favourite) but I was living in Greece - but did the Acrop 3 times - once with starlet 2 with corolloa gti

Promoting 2 litre cars is wrong for the sport. We need to get back to basics. Up to 1300/upto 1600 used to work so well - ok we moved on so why not have upto 1400 and up to 1800 and keep as many young new drivers in the sport with Group N as possible.

Firstly, in a reply to Rob Lowe Subaru aren't entered as S2000, if you have a look at the IRC, Subaru are not allow to compete (although the EVO is, go figure).

From the impression I got Super2000 was meant to encourage more manufacturers and more privateer because it is cheaper. In reply to that, in WRC the maximum Super2000 entered at any event has been 3? (Maybe 4?). And there aren't more manufacturers, look at IRC there are only 2 (Fiat and Peugeot, and Peugeot is so dominate Fiat shouldn't even turn up).

Sounds a bit like the failed Formula 2 to me.

Well, Im piggy in the middle, I realise WRC needs to cut competing costs to attract more teams into the WRC like VW,Seat,Fiat,Peugeot etc etc, but S2000 is really group N. Sandells S2000 was fighting with Flodin's GPN Impreza for eg. I cant help thinking this is the tail wagging the dog situation !! I hope all the current teams prepare well and other teams join us in 2010 so we can justify this scale back (Spectacle wise), the cars sound good but theyre so slow compared with WRC cars. I hope the rules are tweaked a little so the cars are a bit better to drive and watch. The worst that can happen is people wont watch the sport anymore but there will be lots of teams competing cheaply.

I went to Wales Rally GB and saw the S200 Peugeot and Fiat. They sound brilliant and although not as fast as WRC they surprised me. I am a huge WRC fan and was unsure about S200, however I reckon it could be ok especially with the kit that will give them a little extra than the current S2000. I guess 4WD will be no more so don't know what subaru will do, but having spent all the money on the new car to only have to not use it from 2010 will they continue?
Skoda, VW, Priton, MG, Fiat and Peugeot are working on S2000 cars, Ford are looking at the Fiesta I guess Citroen will look at the C2 or launch a new C3, but Loeb might leave the championship.Time will tell, hope the FIA dont wreck it

Scooby have designed the new roo to be two wheel drive, doubt it will be any good. For me the new Sirocco is going to pee on all on asphalt but wonder even raised if it can cut mustard on gravel

I think that it will just the same as it was in the 1987 season.Everyone talk about the slowness of the Gr.A cars and in time the cars got as fast or fasther than the Gr.B cars,I will reserved my judgement for the first rally in 2010 too be finished.
