"a good clean run with no major problems" and Matt can only register a 7th place finish!! He has started more Rally Ireland's than any other top WRC regular and still gets beaten by (1) Seb Ogier in only his second WRCar start (2) Chris Atkinson in his first drive in a Citroen (3) Henning Solberg who was described in a weekly motorsport magazine as "can't get his head around tarmac". Matt also finished over 11mins 23secs behind Sebastian Loeb. Rallies can be won and lost by 11secs - where is Matt going to find 11mins!!! This was meant to be a big year for Matt - 4th full season of WRC and all - but this is the same vanilla performance we've come to expect. Give the car to Wilks.

Hate to agree but I now feel Matt ain't going to make it in WRC especially against the likes of Ogier and Aava :rolleyes:

i thought to myself well done matt your getting there

but when you think about it in the comments above, 7th isn't the greatest and especially 11 mins off

Am i right in thinking that when Loeb started his 4th full WRC Season he has 3 world titles to his name?

How DARE Matthew not be world champion yet. How DARE he deserve a WRC car! How DARE he not be as good as Seb Loeb! It's disgusting that he should be allowed to drive anything EVER!

Yes. I AM being sarcastic.

Get over it already the lot of you. Get off his back. YOU get in a WRC car and do any better, and you can already naff off with your comments of "I'm not a professional!" no, you're not. So shut up and leave Matt alone.

I for one will be supporting our local lad.

There's nothing wrong with expressing one's opinion of a driver, after all it's not like we're going to change Wilson Sr's mind about who to put in the car. Perhaps Matt should be rallying, but just not in the top echelon of the sport, he hasn't proven himself.

On another note, why were all the Fords' (even the BP cars) running the old model with a few stickers to change the appearance of the headlights and grille? Looked embarassing.

Why didnt Ford give tarmac experts Galli/Duval a run in Ireland. Is it a case of Matthew being son of Malcolm the reason why. Also having Al Quassimi in team is of no benefit, is it a case of him bringing along the sponsorship while you have more faster/capable drivers sitting at home.

Vicks, the only thing a privileged kid like Matt has had to earn on his way to a WRC seat is respect in the court of public opinion. He won't get that until he does a good job in his own chosen profession.

The worse thing is that he hasen't even shown a glimpse of being anywhere near a top driver, no impressive showing on a proper stage (you can't count superspecials!) Good drivers are quick out of the box and with time get consistency.

I think he should give up his ride and maybe go into team management and take over from his old man! (he too may not have been very successfull as a driver but has done well to keep ford paying him millions all these years!)

Nothing against Matthew or Malcolm. Met Malcolm once and he was a very polite nice guy. But I think time has come for Matthew to move over. Lot of talent sitting at home last weekend while Rally Ireland was taking place. What harm in giving Guy Wilks or Kris Meeke a run,surely it could do no harm.
