Why have no.1 & no. 2 drivers anyway ?

Never used to happen - Think McRae & Sainz.

Malcolm should have made them equal.

Hope Petter wins and has a strong start to the season, and makes Malcolm's tactics look ridiculous.

Petter was the one to make that inspired tyre choice this morning and both Fords flew in stage 2 to finish 1st and 3rd overall

This was an amazing choice, Citroen even copied Ford this afternoon and got simular results so that tells you how impressed Citroen were with Fords choice

What I cant understand is why Ford risked not repeating the tyre choice for the afternoons run, because Jari Matti has just come a cropper 10km in to stage 4 and Rolled, obviously through a lack of grip

Poor Jari Matti will have knocked his confidence with another accident and all because some smart a*** was trying to be clever with tyre choice

Ooops...

My comments the other day about the Ford team going through a few body shells came true quicker than I expected.

@ John...

Agreed, persoanlly would be backing Petter for the title. As stated above, Jari has confirmed that it was Petter's idea to go out on the mismatching tyres.

I cant say I blame Jari matti, the team have the final say with regards to tyre choice and he was obviously under pressure to maintain his lead on the wrong tyres

I understand he was on 4 studded tyres and was trying to make up time on the icy sections after loosing on the dry asphalt and came a cropper

He is a bit like Vatanen was in his hay day, very fast and a brilliant driver but can also go off, I feel really bad for him, he is probably feeling very embarrassed right now bless him

Dafydd Larcombe - The inspired choice was Solberg's as you have said. Solberg, however, was told not to run the split configuration of tyres and ran on full slicks. Making his drive very impressive! Ford had never run this configuration before, Solberg however did run it on his Citroen in Germany last year... so all in all Latvala has Solberg to thank (and I believe he has stated that it was Solbergs shout on the tyre choice)

Not surprised at this news. JML is not ready to be #1. Too much pressure for someone who is still growing as a driver.

Petter should be #1 considering he was WORLD CHAMPION!!!
I swear people forget that. Putting a talented but flawed driver above a former champion is just crazy.

Hopefully Petter can bring home a good run of points this rally and fight for the title.
