Bruno di Pianto column: A good day for Kosciuszko
10 February 2013 Motorsport Italia team manager Bruno di Pianto reflects on day two of Rally Sweden and a more or less trouble-free day for Michal Kosciuszko...
Day two of Rally Sweden is drawing to a close and it's been a good day for Michal. Our Lotos Rally Team driver has moved up four places to hold 16th overall in the end of day classification. After yesterday's time loss on SS5, we're pleased with this position and hope that Michal can continue to progress through the field on the final day of stages tomorrow.
It was more or less a trouble-free day for Michal. He had one problem with his MINI John Cooper Works WRC's handbrake on SS16 Hagfors Sprint II, which cost him around 10 seconds in the hairpins. However, this was the last stage of the day and only 1.87km, so the time loss was minimised and the problem was quickly fixed at evening service.
Michal is driving carefully to complete all the stages and wants to learn the Swedish conditions to get as much experience as possible for the future. He's now 1 minute 14 seconds, behind the car in front, so he won't push hard to catch him tomorrow. However, we all know that on the treacherous Swedish roads, anything can happen and the rally is an event of endurance as well as speed.
It was around -12 in the service park during the day, but despite the freezing conditions the crowds were great. There's always a fantastic atmosphere at Rally Sweden, out on the stages too!
That's all from me today - a calm day (for a rally!), let's hope now for a good final result tomorrow.
