McLaren boss Ron Dennis has denied that he is poised to replace
Bernie Ecclestone at the head of Formula One.
Several names have been mentioned in connection with Ecclestone's job, as he is rumoured to be considering an imminent retirement, with Dennis' among those most frequently raised. The role, however, holds little attraction for a man celebrating another back-to-back championship success.
"You cannot fail to recognise the success of Bernie," he said, "how well he has developed Formula One, and how profitable it is going to be for his family - but I have no interest in buying him out. There was a big story in Italy along those lines, but it was rubbish, and there was no substance to it whatsoever.
"I don't think running F1 carries with it much more than money and, maybe, power. I'd rather run [the McLaren] group. In American society, money [maybe] the measure of your success, but it is not the measurement throughout the world."
