The Subaru World Rally Team has announced that the season ending Wales Rally GB will be it's final event on Pirelli tyres, with a switch to BFGoodrich having been confirmed for the 2007 World Rally Championship season.
The Banbury based team has competed on Pirelli rubber since the 1994 season, with all 46 WRC wins for the Impreza coming on Pirelli tyres along with three drivers' and three manufacturers' championships.
The team will use BFGoodrich tyres for the first time in a seven-day development test in Spain and France once the season has drawn to a close, with Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson looking to bring a difficult campaign to an end on a high in the Welsh forests.
“Of course, we're very much looking forward to working with BFGoodrich,” SWRT managing director Richard Taylor said. “It will certainly be interesting to go head-to-head with our competitors on the same rubber as, up to now, we have been unable to accurately benchmark our performance.
“At the same time, this announcement brings to an end a very successful partnership with Pirelli and I'd like to express my gratitude to them for all of their efforts since 1994. All of our 46 WRC wins with the Impreza have been with Pirelli tyres and the company has been instrumental in helping us to six World Championship titles.”
BFGoodrich shod cars have won every event on the WRC calendar so far this season.
