Wilson Sr: WRC could rival F1, MotoGP

Pressed on if Ford could still quit the sport if the FIA doesn't get things sorted, Wilson noted that the threat is real - although less so now following that WSMC meeting at the end of June.

"The one thing that the sport needs at this moment in time is a global promoter. It is something that the manufacturers have been working with the FIA on to try and find a solution - and sort the new technical regulations. But the most important thing is to get this global promoter in place.

"The sport does need driving forward. We have got this incredible sport and it is touching quite a big audience. But I think the sport has got so much more to offer and of course it is a business too. Everybody is in this business to deliver value and that is what we are looking for at Ford. The sport does need to deliver value," he summed-up.

i agree that rallying involves a lot more personal skill than F1. however it has been ruined over the last few years. it is not a TV sport nor is it a spectator sport. one blink and it has passed! it is a participant sport but the works input has ruined it. when a new car can be built during the event and compete the following day, just drives away the other participants. Wilson is wrong, as a viewing sport, it could NEVER compete with the roundy-roundy races. but to compete is sheer bliss, when you are competing with equals.
