Ogier: Crucial to finish rallies in '09

Citroen's Sebastien Ogier has said that his priority next year will be to gain experience and finish as many rallies as possible - rather than try and repeat his Wales Rally GB heroics.

Ogier, who won the Junior World Rally Championship in 2008, will graduate to the 'senior' level in '09 and he is currently scheduled to compete in six events, having inked a deal with Citroen's new Manufacturer 2 team.

The youngster was sensational in his maiden season in the WRC and won three of his six events in the J-WRC, before making his debut in a World Rally Car on the season ending Wales Rally GB.

There he shone and despite rolling out of contention on day two, he had already made his mark, sensationally winning his very first stage in a WRC car and leading early on. He was eventually classified 26th overall at the finish, having re-started on the Sunday under the SupeRally format.

Speaking exclusively to Crash.net Radio for a feature in the 2008/09 Rallycourse annual - now the official 'bible' for the World Rally Championship - the FFSA-backed man explained that his main priority in '09 will be to learn.

"I hope to drive a C4 on a lot of rallies next year and I think for me it will be important to do a lot of kilometres with this car and to finish as many rallies as possible," he stated. "I need to get experience and then I can be competitive for 2010.

"My ultimate goal is to become world champion one day. I think I have time and now it is crucial to just get experience."

Asked about his debut outing in a WRC car on the WRGB, Ogier stated that he was happy with how things went, despite that error on the Saturday.

"It was a good opportunity for me to get experience and to drive for the first time a WRC car," he added. "I started rallying three years ago and my progression at the moment is very fast.

"I was really happy to get a start in a WRC car. But it was really, really difficult because of the weather. I think the tyres weren't very good for the conditions. It was very hard.
