IRC: Kopecky to fly flag for Skoda in CRRC

11 March 2011

IRC front runner Jan Kopecky will take in selected events in the International Czech Republic Rally Championship this season, after Skoda confirmed its intention to compete on home soil.

Kopecky, who has finished runner-up in the IRC for the last two years and who won Czech rally title in 2004, will run in a Fabia Super 2000 decked out in a special retro livery to commemorate Skoda's historical achievements at the Monte Carlo Rally and mark 110 years of its motorsport efforts. The paint scheme is based on the Skoda 130 RS, one of the most successful vehicles in the Under 1,300cm3 category and a car in which Skoda took the victory and the runner-up position at the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally.

“We are pleased that our fans at home will have a chance to see the best we can offer – a factory crew in a Fabia Super 2000 appearing in the Czech Republic Championship,” said Skoda Motorsport boss Michal Hrabanek. “The retro-design will make our appearance in the Czech Republic Championship even more attractive and exciting.”

Skoda and Kopecky's first event in the International Czech Republic Rally Championship will be the Wallachia Rally, which takes place at the end of this month and which is also the first round in the 2011 Czech domestic series.

Kopecky's main focus for 2011 though, it should be stressed, will remain the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
