WRC 2012 calendar confirmed, Monte Carlo back

Monte Carlo returns to the World Rally Championship, Italy also gets a place on the 2012 schedule, but Abu Dhabi is dropped; Britain gets a September slot.

The Rallye Monte Carlo is to return to the World Rally Championship in 2012, it has been announced today following a meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council in Barcelona, Spain.

Thirteen rounds were confirmed and in addition to Monte Carlo gaining a slot, Italy has also got a date.

There is no room for Abu Dhabi however, which had been included on the provisional schedule back in April – subject to the 'approval of the event business plan and format' [see separate story - click here]. Abu Dhabi has though been 'invited to submit a proposal to run a candidate event for possible future inclusion in the series'.

Britain's slot meanwhile, which was also subject to the approval of an event business plan and format a few months ago, is now permanent. The event though moves from being the traditional season closer to a date in September, a position it last held back in 2005.

The full schedule is as follows:

2012 FIA World Rally Championship - calendar#:

slightly. sorry for late response. in the old days, cars could start fom various points, such as london, paris, stockholm etc, and came together in montecarlo, where they all ran in the stages. i know it would never happen again, but it was great while it lasted.
