Capito to replace Nissen at Volkswagen

29 March 2012

Jost Capito is to take over the management of Volkswagen Motorsport, it has been announced today.

Capito, who joins VW from Ford, replaces Kris Nissen. Nissen will stay on initially to 'support his successor during the orientation phase' and he will subsequently be available to VW in an advisory role.

"Mr Nissen has advanced Volkswagen Motorsport in a major way, leading the motorsport team in what has so far been its most successful phase," said Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Development of the Volkswagen brand.

"He made a crucial contribution, for instance, to Volkswagen having scored a one-two victory at the 2009 Dakar Rally and making motorsport history with the one-two-three victories at the Dakar Rally in 2010 and 2011."

Capito, who has been with Ford since 2001, most recently had worldwide responsibility for the Blue Oval's performance vehicles and motorsport strategy in his role as 'director of Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development'. He will take up his new position on May 1.

His recruitment comes as VW gears up to enter the WRC full-time with the new Polo WRC in 2013.

VW has already recruited a number of key people ahead of its assault on the WRC, most noticeably ex-Citroen works driver Sebastien Ogier and former Citroen team manager, Sven Smeets.
