Day two ends early in Portugal

The organisers of Rally de Portugal have announced that SS8 and SS9 have both now been cancelled.

SS10 had already been axed due to delays [see separate story - HERE], however, it has now been decided that the repeat loop will be abandoned altogether for 'safety reasons'.

Earlier in the day, heavy rain, fog and mud made conditions extremely challenging, with a number of drivers forced out, including overnight leader, Jari-Matti Latvala and his Ford team-mate, Petter Solberg.

The action will now resume on Saturday, with SS11, the 26.22 km Almodovar 1 test, due to start at 09.49 hours local time.

Mikko Hirvonen currently leads the event, 36.3 seconds up on Evgeny Novikov. Mads Ostberg lies third, followed by Patrik Sandell and Martin Prokop [to read the mid-day report – CLICK HERE].
