The Prodrive WRC Team has confirmed that its next three events in the 2012 FIA World Rally
Championship will be Rally New Zealand, Rallye Deutschland and Wales Rally GB.
Prodrive will run a MINI John Cooper Works WRC for Dani Sordo and is said to be talking to a 'number of drivers' who might join the team in a second car.
Currently the squad is not planning to take in the Acropolis Rally at the end of May or Rally Finland at the start of August. However, it does intend to compete in further events after Wales Rally GB, but that has still to be finalised.
“We looked at the events we thought would be our most competitive and which gave an even spread throughout the year,” explained team principal, Dave Wilcock. “After our pace on tarmac last year and Dani's podiums and near win in France, Germany was an obvious choice.
“Rally GB is clearly our home event, while after the performance of the new car on the gravel of Portugal, we felt New Zealand should give us a further opportunity to demonstrate that we have the pace to win on loose surfaces.”
For all the forthcoming events the Prodrive MINI WRCs will run in the latest specification, the same that brought Sordo six stage wins at Rally Portugal.
The latest upgrades will also be made available to all other factory-supported MINIs.
Prior to New Zealand, Sordo will also compete in the Tour de Corse in May, the fourth round in the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge. He will use a Drive-Pro MINI Super Production Car run by SMG Motorsport [see separate story – CLICK HERE
