Matton: Loeb, Hirvonen free to fight

3 August 2012

Citroen team boss Yves Matton has confirmed that Sebastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen will have 'complete freeness' to battle it out tomorrow for victory on Rally Finland.

Loeb and Hirvonen have been locked in a good scrap all day long, but while Hirvonen has closed up on his team-mate, he has remained locked in P2 and following the conclusion of the second leg is 5 seconds adrift.

Speaking at the end of the day though, Matton said he had no intention of enforcing team orders again like he did in New Zealand and Argentina.

“It was a great day. Everybody did a great job. The speed is there and also we had no problems with the car. It is a great job from the team. But there is no question [of team orders],” he confirmed.

“Since the end of Rally New Zealand we decided to give complete freeness to the drivers in Finland due to the fact this is always a rally where the gaps are very close - and the battle is still there.

“Also we now have some good points in the championships and we can [therefore] take some more risks.”
