Ogier to join WRC greats on track
Sebastien Ogier will join three WRC stars from years gone by in competing in the latest rounds of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at the Nurburgring this weekend.

Ogier will be joined by Carlos Sainz, Markku Alen and Juha Kankkunen for the event, which will see the quartet join the 21 series regulars for the seventh round of the Scirocco R-Cup season.

“It's a nice change,” Ogier said. “I drove the car before, at my Race of Champions victory, and it's almost as much fun as my rally car. With a front-wheel-drive car you can't drift really well, though, but that's not important here.

“Competing with legends like Kankkunen, Sainz or Alen is a great thing - I'm sure they haven't lost any of their former skills.”

VW motorsport director Jost Capito said he was sure that the four rally stars would impress.

"The chance to compete against these rally racing stars poses a special challenge to our Cup drivers at the Nurburgring,” he said. “I'm sure that particularly our young racers can learn a couple of things here and there from these veteran masters even in a circuit racing event.”

The races will be held on the shorter Nurburgring layout, as opposed to the layout used for the German Grand Prix.
