Solberg: I just lost the back end...

25 August 2012

Ford's Petter Solberg has conceded it was his fault he had to retire from Rallye Deutschland today.

Solberg had been enjoying a great event and was 'best of the rest' after the ever dominant Sebastien Loeb.

However it all went wrong 30 kilometres into the daunting 46.54 km Panzerplatte test, SS9, when the Norwegian hit a rock and damaged the rear right of his Fiesta RS WRC car too seriously too continue.

It has yet to be confirmed if he will re-join the fold on Sunday under the Rally 2 regulations.

“It was my fault,” Solberg told the official WRC site. “I lost the back end of the car in a very long left corner and I couldn't get it back again.

“We had a big slide and the car touched a rock. Unfortunately the damage on the rear-right was too big to continue.

"I felt I was in full control [before that] and it is very disappointing because my pace has been very good all weekend and I've not made any mistakes until then,” he added.
