Loeb to do just four rounds in 2013

6 December 2012

Sebastien Loeb will compete in just four WRC events next year with the Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. Confirmation came today following the presentation of the team's new livery and its 2013 line-up in Abu Dhabi.

As already announced, the Frenchman's programme will include the season opener, Rallye Monte Carlo in January, and it has also now been revealed that he will do Rally Sweden in February and Rallye de France Alsace in October. The fourth event has still to be confirmed, although Rally Argentina is thought likely.

Citroen also added that the number 1 will only be assigned to the nine-time World Rally Champion and thus won't be seen on the nine events he will skip.

“We'll start the season in Monte-Carlo and we'll also be competing in Sweden, because it's a rally that I would love to win in normal racing conditions,” said Loeb, who has won there only once, back in 2004 when then Ford driver Markko Martin made an error in SS11 and threw away a comfortable lead.

“And I couldn't begin to think about missing the Rallye de France [my home round],” he added.

Dani Sordo meanwhile, who has been brought in effectively as Loeb's replacement, will be nominated to score manufacturers' points alongside Mikko Hirvonen when the Frenchman is absent.

“I'm incredibly pleased to be back with the team,” Sordo remarked. “The first test sessions went very well and I'm ready to help Citroen win more titles. My personal goal will be to win my first rally in the WRC.”

At this stage, Citroen has said the Spaniard will do 'at least' 11 rounds. Hirvonen will do all the events.
