Ogier: I may be a bit rusty at start of season

7 December 2012

Sebastien Ogier has admitted it make take him a few events to get back up to speed in 2013.

Ogier has spent this season at the wheel of a Volkswagen Motorsport-run Skoda Fabia Super 2000, and while he has been testing and developing the all-new Volkswagen Polo R WRC, which will be officially launched in Monaco on Saturday, the Frenchman is aware he might be a bit rusty and not able to challenge for wins from the off.

“About the car we don't know exactly if it will be really possible from the beginning [to win],” Ogier told the official WRC site.

“About myself I might need a bit of time to be in the perfect rhythm in a WRC car [too],” he added. “For sure the rhythm is a bit different and I hope it will not be difficult to be back in a WRC car although I am confident I can do it.”

Meanwhile, while 2012 was something of a transitional year for the 28-year-old and very different to 2011, when he took five wins and was a title contender, Ogier reckons he has benefitted from it.

“First in terms of experience it's good to do another year and learn more the stages of the championship, that's a good point,” he continued.

“Also, I have been able to take a background view of the championship and to analyse more what's happened. I am sure it will be helpful for the future,” he summed-up.
