Latvala: Volkswagen best option as I strive for title
8 December 2012
Jari-Matti Latvala has said he has been impressed with Volkswagen since making the switch to the team.
The Finn opted to sign for VW after Ford pulled its works involvement and he is now eagerly looking forward to the 2013 World Rally Championship season opener, Rallye Monte Carlo.
Speaking after making his first proper appearance with Volkswagen on Saturday, following the presentation of the final design of the Polo R WRC in Monaco
, Latvala added that he is convinced he can realise his dream of winning the WRC drivers' title with VW.
“For me, Volkswagen is the best option as I strive to close in on my personal goal: the World Championship title,” confirmed the 27-year-old. “The team has impressed me with its determination and the pleasant way in which everyone treats each other.
“Every individual is absolutely committed to helping the whole team be successful. I am really excited about the Monte.”
Team-mate, Sebastien Ogier meanwhile is also looking forward to Monte Carlo and he is keen to get back in a World Rally Car 'in anger' after a transitional year in 2012 with the VW Motorsport-run Skoda Fabia S2000.
“After over a year and a half of preparations, I can hardly wait to pull up to the start of the 'Monte' with the Polo R WRC and see where we stand compared to the opposition,” he added.
