Wilson: Top results will come
21 January 2013
Qatar M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson has said he is convinced the team's young chargers will be able to get some 'top results' this season, despite a disappointing end to Rallye Monte Carlo.
This year's edition of the Monte, the opening round in the 2013 FIA World Rally Championship, featured some of the most difficult conditions seen for some time and of the four Qatar M-Sport men, only team leader, Mads Ostberg got to the finish in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC car, taking sixth place despite a scare in the final stage.
Meanwhile, Ostberg's three team-mates all went out, with Thierry Neuville an early casualty at the end of day one, while Evgeny Novikov and Juho Hanninen were both caught out on the final day on the first run through 'Col du Turini', SS14. Novikov had been running third, while Hanninen was seventh.
“Obviously the rally didn't end the way we would have wanted with Evgeny and Juho not making the finish, but I think that there are still a lot of positives that we can take from this event,” Wilson insisted.
“All of the drivers put in a great performance and I think they've all shown a lot of potential. When you take youngsters to an event like this it is always going to be a challenge.
“Experience counts for a lot here, and especially this year with some of the worst conditions the rally has seen in more than 20 years.
“The whole team is now looking forward to the challenges ahead. Looking at the performance these young guys have shown, I am sure that we will be in contention for some top results as the season progresses,” Wilson confirmed at the finish.
