ERC: Rally Class branches out
31 January 2013
Rally Class is to feature as part of the new-look European Rally Championship this year, in addition to continuing in the World Rally Championship for a second season, it has been announced by organisers, Symtech Racing.
The Rally Class in the ERC will take in six rounds – namely the events in Azores, Ypres, San Marino, Barum, Sanremo and Switzerland.
“For 240,000 Euros drivers will be able to rent a fully insured Group N Subaru Impreza STR12 for the whole [ERC Rally Class] season [6 events] all-in,” a statement to the media explained. “They will receive full technical assistance on rallies, as well as spare parts, entry fees, tyres, fuel and all service materials. They will also be put up in a team hotel as well as receiving on and off-event team support and a full media management service. So an all-in formula for a very basic fix budget.”
In return, the overall winner of this year's ERC Rally Class will be rewarded with three fully-funded ERC events in 2014 at the wheel of a R4 Subaru. The runner-up will receive one fully-funded ERC round in 2014.
Symtech Racing's Dirk Van der Sluys commented: “I believe that we are offering a truly fantastic package for anyone wishing to take part in the 2013 Rally Class in the all-new European Rally Championship.
“The series provides the perfect stepping stone for drivers who wish to progress in their rally career with the full support and back-up of a highly experienced team. We have deliberately chosen a mix of events: four asphalt and two gravel rallies which will allow drivers to experience as many varied and mixed-surface rallies as possible.”
Accepted now as an international series by the FIA, Rally Class was set up in 2011 and uses identical Subaru Impreza STR12 Group N cars. These are the same machines that claimed four out of five Group N wins on last year's FIA World Rally Championship.
