Ogier: Mexico 'new venture' for Volkswagen
3 March 2013
Volkswagen's Sebastien Ogier is looking forward to what he believes will be a 'new venture' on next week's Rally Mexico.
The French driver took VW's maiden victory on Rally Sweden last month, but insists that his success on the Karlstad stages is 'yesterday's news', with his focus now firmly on the team's first event on gravel with the Polo WRC.
“I was delighted with the win in Sweden,” he said. “However that is yesterday's news as the Rally Mexico now sees us take on our first gravel event with the Polo R WRC.”
Ogier also described the stages and atmosphere around Leon as 'fantastic' and said the rally will be an indicator of how the Polo compares with its rivals on gravel.
“The start in Guanajato, in particular, is a fantastic experience,” he admitted. “Down narrow lanes, through tunnels, and past thousands of fans cheering you on frenetically – that is pure goose bumps!
“Mexico will give us our first indication of how good the car is on gravel, and where we need to tweak a few screws to improve in the future.”
Ogier currently leads the Drivers' Championship with 46 points to nearest rival, Sebastien Loeb – who won't be competing on the event - on 43.
VW meanwhile sit second in the Manufacturers' battle with 55 points to Citroen's 57. by George East
