Solberg readies for Rallycross debut

27 March 2013

Petter Solberg has moved a step closer to his debut in the FIA European Rallycross Championship after competing the build of the Citroen DS3 he will use during the season ahead.

The former WRC title winner, who switches to the series this season after failing to secure a drive in the World Rally Championship, has spent the past two weeks working with his team on the build of the car, with a test in France now planned prior to the Easter Weekend meeting.

With his team having worked at least 17 hours a day, Solberg will carry out the test at the Circuit de l'Ouest Parisien Rallycross track near Paris before crossing the channel for the Lydden Hill season-opener.

“It's essential to get the car set up exactly the way we want it before next weekend's races,” Solberg, who will compete under the Petter Solberg RX Team banner, said. “So far it's been absolutely amazing, with [chief engineer] Simon Levett and our mechanics driving things forward. I feel so lucky to have such a fantastic team around me.”

Solberg's older brother Henning is also set to compete at Lydden Hill having agreed a deal to compete in a Saab 9-3 run by Eklund Motorsport.
