WRC Portugal 2013: Sordo goes off

13 April 2013

Citroen's Dani Sordo has retired from day two of Rally de Portugal after going off the road in the opening stage of the day.

Sordo, who was second overall last night, just 4.4 seconds off rally leader, Sebastien Ogier, was on a charge in SS6, the 31.12 km run through Santan de Serra 1 and at the fourth split was 3.1 seconds up on the Frenchman. However shortly afterwards he went off.

Although details currently sketchy, Citroen has confirmed that both Sordo and co-driver, Carlos del Barrio escaped unharmed.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard was not the only runner in trouble, as Thierry Neuville also went out in the same test after hitting a rock early on and damaging the suspension on his Fiesta RS WRC car. The Qatar WRT man had been in fifth place.
