WRC Rally Argentina 2013: 'Clever' approach rewards Neuville
5 May 2013
Thierry Neuville has expressed his satisfaction after finishing fifth on Rally Argentina, equalling his previous best on the South American event.
The Qatar World Rally Team man said prior to the event that he wanted to make sure he got to the finish, after a 'very disappointing' rally in Portugal, and he ran in the points throughout, gradually rising up the order as a number of his rivals fell back.
While he struggled to find the optimum set-up through the final leg on Saturday, his 'clever' approach still paid dividends as he kept his nose clean, all the while gaining more vital knowledge of his Fiesta RS WRC car and the stages.
It was his third points' finish of the year, as he also finished fifth in Sweden and was third in Mexico.
“As I said before the rally, our strategy this weekend was to have a clever event and make sure that we got to the end without any problems – and that's what we did,” Neuville stated. “It was not so easy to keep my foot away from the throttle the whole time, but it paid off and the result is a good one for us. I don't think we could have done much better.
“I wasn't so happy with the set-up today and that is something that we'll have to work on for the next events. [But] I'm still learning with the car.”
“Hopefully we'll have some good testing now before Greece and we can work on getting that right before then,” he added.
