Kubica takes dominant WRC2 win on Acropolis

2 June 2013

Former F1 winner Robert Kubica blitzed the competition to take a dominant WRC2 win on the Acropolis Rally of Greece this weekend.

The Pole led the principal support category from start-to-finish in his Citroen DS3 RRC, winning nine of the first ten stages before easing off on the final day to ensure he took the triumph.

He eventually brought his car home 1 minute 29.8 seconds up on his closest class rival. He also finished eleventh overall. It was his best result to date in rallying.

“Finally, after a disappointing period with my mistakes and car failure, today is a great day,” Kubica told the official WRC site. “I think the best thing is that I learned a lot here. These are completely opposite conditions to what I've been used to for the last 20 years.

“Coming here and driving in a good way, managing to keep the car on the road without damage is already an achievement. Winning is even more.”

Despite his success however, Kubica isn't getting carried away: “I know I have to learn a lot and for sure on the next rallies I will improve me even more," he continued. "There is still long way to go before I get to the level I want to reach.”
