After missing day one, the Spaniard set a very impressive 1min 59.5secs during his first ever Honda ride on Pirelli control tyres - placing him joint third, level with Ducati's double world champion Troy Bayliss and within one second of fastest man Troy Corser, on the day two timesheets.
That was despite Checa's session being cut short by an engine problem, but he will return to the track on Friday's third and final day of testing. The former 500cc race winner will be joined by team-mate and reigning double BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari, also a WSBK rookie, who has so far had to sit out the tests.
Third 2008 Ten Kate Honda WSBK rider, and reigning World Supersport champion, Kenan Sofuoglu was seventh fastest out of the eight riders on day two. Sofuoglu fell at high speed shortly after lunch, causing extensive damage to his machine.
