Haga recovering after surgery

Noriyuki Haga has undergone surgery to help heal his broken right collarbone by inserting a metal plate.

The 2007 World Superbike Championship runner-up suffered the injury during practice at last weekend's Miller Motorsports Park event - but rode through the pain to secure tenth on the grid and, despite falling in race one, clawed back valuable points on world championship leader Troy Bayliss with a brave sixth in race two.

The Yamaha Italia star then flew to San Jose on Monday, where Dr. Arthur Ting used eight screws to fit a metal plate onto the broken bone.

With the forthcoming German round of the 2008 world championship taking place on June 15, Haga - who has won two races this year - will have little time to recover, but is determined to ride.

Haga is presently fifth in the championship standings, 72 points behind Bayliss, who failed to finish both US races.
