Xaus: Corser and I would make great pair

Ruben Xaus admits he would be happy to see Troy Corser join him at BMW for their maiden assault on the World Superbike Championship, but insists is not aware of who will be his team-mate in 2009.

Xaus is the first rider to be confirmed for the German manufacturer's high-profile arrival in Superbike racing, but it was Corser who had been garnering much of the speculation prior to the Spaniard's announcement.

Unsurprisingly, with one seat now filled, the emphasis has again shifted to who will ride the second S1000 RR, with Corser once more emerging as many people's bet to switch from Yamaha.

Although he is unable to confirm otherwise, Xaus does admit that he would be pleased to have one of the most experienced rider's on the grid joining him in the team.

"I don't know if Corser is coming or not,” he said. “If he does, then it'll be great because he's a champion with a lot of experience and ability in developing the bike. We'd make a great pair of riders.”

Until then, Xaus is excited at the opportunity to race with one of the world's largest car and bike brands, even if his imminent commitment is to build on his Misano victory at Sterilgarda Ducati.

"It's a great opportunity! But for the moment I'm totally focused on this season, which I want to finish with some more good results.

"It looks really nice and I believe it's got a lot of potential. Above all I realize that I'm forming part of a big project.”

Who will take the 2nd Yamaha - I'm just waiting for Jamie Stauffer (Australian SBK champ - Yamaha) to make his entrance onto the world stage. BMW couldn't get a better development rider than Troy C. With KTM moving in and BMW lining up as well anyone get the feeling that this is really taking over from motogp?

As for their choice in Xaus(Brian) – I think Xaus is a talented rider but not a talented racer – however it is easier to teach a fast inconsistent guy to be consistent than it is too teach a slow consistent guy to be fast – this is the lesson that Ducati and Stoner taught everyone in motogp and I think BMW will benefit from teaming him with fast consistent and clever Corser
