Tardozzi: Sometimes you need a change

Davide Tardozzi explains that the need for a new challenge for the main factor behind his decision to leave Ducati
Davide Tardozzi has moved to explain his reasons for quitting as the head of Ducati's World Superbike Championship outfit after ten years in charge, admitting the time had come for a change of scenery.

It was revealed last week that Tardozzi was to leave his position, with Ducati confirming that Ernesto Marinelli will be promoted into the role of team manager with the Ducati Xerox team.

Ducati had stated that Tardozzi was seeking 'new professional challenges' and the man himself has now confirmed that a desire to take on a new challenge was indeed the main reason for his decision to leave.

"Sometimes there are some moments when you are looking for something else in your life and something else in your career, whatever," he told the official WSBK website. "I am just looking forward to having something else. I would like to have the experience of something else but nothing so far. I am waiting to see if someone will call me.

"It is a kind of bet with yourself when you do something like this. And it is a way to be honest with the people who always have paid you, Ducati. When you do not feel any more to have the right spirit and feeling, I feel you have to leave. I do not want to be there just to hold a chair and earn a salary."

Tardozzi added that he was thankful to Ducati for allowing him to leave prior to the end of his contract and again insisted that it was purely for personal, rather than professional, reasons.

"I have to say thank you to Claudio Domenicali and Filippo Preziosi who let me to go away although I had a two-year contract with them,” he said. “They understood what the position was and realised that it was done for human reasons, not professional reasons."
